10 CDF officials, company directors arrested over theft of Ksh55M in Nyandarua

Several private company directors were among 10 officials arrested over misappropriation of Ksh55 million from Ol Kalou constituency National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), in Nyandarua County.

In a statement on Monday May 6, 2024, the  Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed that the officials were arrested in relation to Ksh55 million purported to be payments for road projects in Ol Kalou constituency that were never done.

According to the EACC, the suspects are set for arraignment at the Nyahururu Anti-Corruption Court on Monday May 6, 2024 at 9am.

“EACC will this morning, at 9am, arraign before Nyahururu Anti-Corruption Court ten (10) Ol Kalou Constituency NG-CDF Officials and Directors of private companies who embezzled Ksh55.8 million purported to be payments for road projects in the constituency, which were never done,” EACC noted in a statement posted on X.

This was after the suspects were arrested on Friday May 3, 2024, before they were taken to EACC Nyeri Regional Offices for further interrogation.

“The arraignment comes after the office of the Director of Public Prosecution concurred with recommendations of the Commission to charge the suspects with 16 counts of corruption and economic crimes,” EACC said,” EACC noted.

The arrest of CDF officials in Nyandarua comes a few days after former Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria and his wife Jane Waigwe Kimani were charged on April 30, 2024 in a Ksh351 million graft case.

Wa Iria was released on a Ksh10 million cash bail after pleading not guilty to nine counts of corruption, abuse of office, and money laundering in a Ksh 351 million graft case.

This was after EACC received a report that Murang’a County Government irregularly awarded tenders for media and publicity to a Company known as Top Image Consultants at a cost of Ksh562,000,000 during the FY 2014/2015 and 2015/2016.
