A recent joint investigation by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission highlighted a concerning trend, revealing that one out of three employed Kenyans possesses counterfeit academic certificates.

This revelation suggests that a significant portion, or 33%, of the employed workforce may lack the necessary qualifications for their respective roles.

The anti-corruption agency has been on the neck of government workers at both national and county levels who used fake certificates to get their jobs – though many remain uncaught.

The issue of fake certificates is also affecting the country’s politics. Some politicians had questionable academic certificates in the run-up to the 2022 General Election.
