10 suspects arrested while transporting donkey meat to butcheries

Police officers on Saturday, December 30, arrested 10 suspects who were transporting donkey meat for sale in Nairobi from Wote, Makueni County.

The suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing the donkeys and slaughtering them for sale to unsuspecting consumers in Nairobi.

“It was reported by Ms Jane Ndawa, the Assistant Chief for Kambi Mawe that within the homestead of one Makau Kimolo alias Jones Katiku located within Kwa Kathoka village was slaughtering of suspected stolen donkeys going on and there were vehicles waiting to collect the meat,” read part of the police report.

Police officers from the Kwa Kathoka Police Post responded and laid an ambush at a feeder road and intercepted two motor vehicles that were being used for transporting donkey meat.

Suspects who were arrested during the incident included Carol Makau (wife of the owner of the home), Francis Mutua Makau ( Son of the owner of the home) and Andrew Mwanzia Kithiki.

Other suspects are Antony Kitasio Kiiru, Samson Mureithi Kamau, Paul Mwangi Kabura, Cyrus Githinji Nthumbi, Isaac Irungu Njoroge, Johnstone Mwoki kilunja, and Samuel Mwangi.

“The suspects admitted that they had slaughtered 15 donkeys at the said homestead and they have been doing so for a while and the meat was being transported to Shauri Moyo Market in Nairobi,” police noted in a statement.

After analyzing the scene of crime at the compound, police discovered that heads and hooves were buried to conceal evidence of the criminal act.

The suspects and the exhibits were later escorted to Makueni Police Station.
