As Gertrude Young’s family gears up to celebrate her 103rd birthday, a remarkable milestone, that very few attain Gertrude, fondly known as “Gert,” graciously shared her secrets for a long and joyful life.

Born in the year 1920, Gertrude has a lifetime of wisdom to offer. She was married for a remarkable 60 years and is a proud mother of three children.

With a twinkle in her eye, she mentions having numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that as age is catching up with her she can hardly keep track.

What’s truly extraordinary is that Gertrude continued to work in retail until she reached the impressive age of 80. Her work ethic and zest for life are truly inspiring.

“It is important to have a passion for something and work at it, it keeps you young and invigorated every single morning.”

When asked about her secrets to longevity, Gert’s response is refreshingly unconventional. She playfully suggested:

“Eat a lot of chocolate and ice cream, and don’t drink too much water. That’s how I’ve lived my life.”

She chuckled and admitted:

“I know it isn’t right.”

With a delightful sense of humour, Gertrude exclaims,

“I’m a star at 103, I knew I’d make it someday.”

Her positive outlook and jovial spirit are contagious.
