104-year-old woman breaks world record for oldest person to skydive

A centenarian has just shattered the world record for the oldest skydiver.

Her fearless feat is nothing short of remarkable.

Dorothy Hoffner, a sprightly 104-year-old, embarked on an adventure that most people half her age would balk at skydiving.

In the heart of northern Illinois, Dorothy boarded a plane with unwavering determination, ready to etch her name in the annals of history.

Dorothy the hero

As the aircraft ascended to a dizzying altitude of 13,500 feet, excitement coursed through her veins.

Strapped securely to her dive instructor, Dorothy displayed boundless courage as they hurled themselves out of the plane.

For a brief, heart-pounding moment, they plummeted through the sky, defying gravity, before the trusty parachute opened, slowing their descent.

Upon landing safely at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, the centenarian exclaimed, “Age is just a number!”

Her loved ones, filled with admiration, gathered around her, handing her a red walker to help her walk away.

Dorothy’s joy radiated as she described her exhilarating experience.

“It was wonderful up there. The whole thing was delightful, wonderful, couldn’t have been better,” she said.

But this remarkable jump wasn’t her first; she had tasted the thrill of the skies before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Now, Skydive Chicago is in the process of seeking official recognition from Guinness World Records for Dorothy Hoffner’s extraordinary achievement.

Record holder

The previous record holder, 103-year-old Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson from Sweden, had made a daring jump last year.

Dorothy, however, aimed to be at the forefront of this record-breaking leap.

Even at the age of 100, on her first skydiving adventure, she candidly admitted that her instructor had given her a little nudge.

But this time, she was determined to lead the charge herself.

As she approaches her 105th birthday in December, Dorothy shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, she’s contemplating celebrating her next milestone by taking her first hot-air balloon ride.

Dorothy Hoffner is undoubtedly a legend, and an inspiration to us all, proving that age is no obstacle when it comes to chasing one’s dreams.
