At least 11 people were confirmed dead on Saturday April 27, 2024 as a result of drowning in different parts of the country due to floods, according to the police report.
According to a police report on Sunday April 28, 2024, 11 people were washed away by floods in 9 counties in the country.
The bodies were collected from separate scenes in the country, while several other people are still missing as a result of floods.
Meanwhile, official statistics from the government show that the death toll is more than 90 people since the start of the April rains.
At the same time, police reported that following heavy rains experienced on Saturday, the figures could rise while more people have been displaced by floods.
For instance, at Illasit Police Station, in Kajiado County, it was reported taht a body of a 68-year-old woman was recovered from River Mararoi on Saturday at around 7.30 pm.
The body of the elderly woman was removed to Loitoktok mortuary.
Elsewhere in Machakos County, a 40-year-old man was carried away as he attempted to cross River Kimutwa that was flooded.
The victim identified as Paul Muthiani was walking home from Kwa Mwau shopping centre after the heavy downpour when he drowned.
Police officers and Kenya Red Cross officials went to the scene and launched a search for the body of the victim.
Another drowning incident was reported at Kitise police post in Makueni County. A body of an unknown male adult was retrieved from River Athi and taken to Makueni Referral hospital morgue.
In Laikipia County, a drowning incident was reported at Rumuruti Police station involving a 12-year-old boy who drowned while swimming at a dam.
Additionally, a man drowned in Narok River at Enkare, Narok County while allegedly removing firewood from the river.
Elsewhere in Bomet County, a man drowned in river Itare in Cheptingting sub-location, Koiwa Location. The body was removed to Kapkatet hospital mortuary.
