Eleven people, including actors from Western Kenya, who were going for a concert in Baringo, were injured in a tragic accident along the Iten-Kabarnet road on Thursday March 6, 2025 in the morning.
The accident occurred at Kolol area, in Elgeyo Marakwet County after a matatu belonging to Trans-West Sacco lost control due to brake failure while descending from Kolol view.
According to Elgeyo Marakwet County police commander Peter Mulinge, the matatu, registration number KCN 947U, was heading to Baringo when it veered off the road, hit a rock and overturned, landing on its back.
The driver, Jairo Masika Kamasi, 59, sustained a compound fracture on his right leg, while the 11 passengers suffered various injuries.
Among those injured, Vivian Ingatsa, 24, sustained a cut on her right hand and a swollen forehead, while Purity Ivon, 22, suffered a hip dislocation and a fracture. Victor Adour, 26, had bruises on his head and legs and Melvin Awagata, 25, complained of pain in his left leg.
Other victims included Chazima Cedrick, 33, who suffered neck pain and Constantine Alusiola, 26, who had a cut on his mouth. George Barasa, 22, lost some teeth and suffered a cut on his lower lip, while Kelvin Satia, 22, complained of body pain.
They were all rushed to Iten County Referral Hospital for treatment. Police visited the scene and towed the extensively damaged matatu to Iten Police Station for inspection.
