Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy for killing his 50-year-old biological father who had returned home after drinking alcohol all day in Kassanda District, Uganda.
John Luyima was killed by his son on March 7, 2024 in Katovu village, Kamuli Sub County during a domestic quarrel.
The incident was confirmed by Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala, who reported that the boy was arrested after the murder incident.
“When he reached home, according to his wife Josephine Nakayana, he started quarreling with her. After having his supper, he proceeded to bed and later woke up and shifted the quarrel to his children and started beating them,” said Ms. Kawala during an interview with the Daily Monitor.

“It is alleged that his 15-year-old boy picked a machete and cut his father on the head, causing his death. We are informed that the family has been having long standing domestic violence,” she added.
The police spokesperson decried increased cases of domestic violence in the region, as she advised victims to seek help from local authorities and security forces instead of taking law into their own hands.

She reported that the body of the deceased was removed to Kassanda Health Centre for post mortem as police continue investigating the incident.
According to official statistics from Uganda, 257 cases of murder by hacking were reported across the country in 2023 as compared to 215 cases in 2022.
