After weeks of intense investigations, DCI detectives in Kasarani Sub-County have arrested two suspects linked to the brutal murder of 26-year-old Mercy Rufani.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Ngera Kamau and Fred Mathenge Kanja, are both Kenya Army soldiers stationed in Embakasi.
Mercy was reported missing from her parents’ home in Pipeline, Embakasi, on September 28, 2024.
Her disappearance led to an agonizing search, which ended tragically when her body was discovered dumped in Mwiki area along the Eastern Bypass.
The scene was grim where her body was found partially undressed, with visible bruises on her thighs, lower back, and left ankle.
Alongside her body were a black blouse, a blanket, and a mobile phone. Authorities revealed that Joseph Ngera had picked Mercy from her home that night in a Mazda (Reg. No. KDA 796L) and taken her to his residence in Komarock.
However, a disagreement erupted in the parking lot, leading to a violent altercation where Ngera allegedly assaulted and killed Mercy.
He then called his colleague, Fred Mathenge, for assistance in disposing of the body.
Forensic evidence helped the detectives to track down and arrest the two suspects from their hideouts in Komarock Estate and Tononoka area in Embakasi.
They are currently being held at Kasarani Police Station as officers prepare to arraign them in court on October 24, 2024.
