20 passengers escape a deadly bus fire incident in Makueni

Twenty passengers escaped what could have been a deadly disaster, after a bus they were travelling in caught fire.

The incident took place on Sunday January 21, at 1am along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Makueni County.

Eastern regional police commander, Joseph Ole Napeiyan confirmed that a passenger service vehicle enroute from Mombasa to Nairobi burst into flames within the Kanga area of Tsavo National Park.

“It was reported by other motorists at about 1.00 am that there was a vehicle which was on fire along Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Kanga area within Tsavo National Park,” read part the police report.

The matter was reported to Mtito Andei Police Station as a vehicle fire incident involving a PSV.

However, all the 20 passengers were evacuated and there were no casualties.

Luckily, their luggage was also retrieved while the bus Company is yet to be established.

Police have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

Another Bus fire incident

A similar incident was reported on December 18, 2023 when a PSV bus belonging to Buscar Bus Company burnt down with 27 passengers on board.

The 44 bus seater was heading to Nairobi from Voi when the incident occurred.

This also took place at Mogingo area along Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Makueni County.

According to Eastern regional police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan, the fire is suspected to have been caused by faulty wiring.

”It occurred at 3.35 am and it was reported by other road users that there was a bus belonging to Buscar Bus Company which was on fire.”

However, all the passengers escaped the deadly incident and no casualties were reported.
