200 bars closed as ‘Gachagua Laws’ take effect in Nyandarua

Nyandarua has officially availed The County Alcohol Bill dubbed as ‘The Gachagua Laws’ as a way to counter cases of illicit brewing and substance abuse in the county.

Speaking at the County Headquarters, Governor Kiarie Badilisha lauded the MCAs for passing the bill, stating that it is a milestone in matters fight against illicit alcohol.

The new law now only allows selling of alcohol in major towns and no alcohol business will be carried out in minor towns, residential places and near schools.

With the new law, all those who want to do alcohol business in the county will be required to undergo reassessment by county officials and other relevant bodies in order to flash out any illegal businesses.

His sentiments were echoed by the County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa who said that so far they have closed over 134 bars, 62 Wines and spirits shops and close to 15 illegally operating pharmacies within the county.
