Tifa research released a report on Friday, December 29, showing that 2023 was the worst year as 87 percent of Kenyans confirmed that the cost of living was worse compared to 2022.
According to the Tifa report, 81 percent of Kenyans feel that the economy in 2023 was worse than in 2022.
“According to the Year-End Poll, nearly 67 percent of Kenyans believe 2023 was more challenging than 2022.
“Additionally, respondents expressed that the cost of living, economic conditions, employment prospects and access to loans were worse than the previous year,” read part of Tifa report.
Most of the respondents who were interviewed during the survey, disclosed that the probability of getting a job in 2023 was too low, as 65 percent of Kenyans say it was not easy to get employed as compared to previous years.

“A comprehensive assessment has been conducted to gauge the general perception of Kenyans toward 2023, with particular attention given to those who perceived the year as worsening,” read part of Tifa report.
Generally, 67 percent of Kenyans expressed dissatisfaction with the year 2023, as compared to 2022.

Residents in the Nyanza region were the most dissatisfied, leading with 76 per cent, followed closely by Nairobi with 74 percent.
The report further showed that the widespread discontent was also noted in the Eastern region with 69 percent.
Western and Coastal regions followed with 67 percent dissatisfaction, as the Central Kenya region had 63 percent.

At the same time 60 percent of Kenyans in the Rift Valley region, President William Ruto’s stronghold, perceived 2023 harder than 2022. The North Eastern region also had 60 percent dissatisfaction.
A total of 1,587 respondents were interviewed across the country during the survey that started on November 25 to December 9, 2023.
