The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League knockout stage is set, with 24 teams securing qualification.

Liverpool and Barcelona were the first to book their places in the Round of 16, with six more teams confirming their progression.

Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid on Matchday 5 secured their advancement, while Barcelona sealed their place on Matchday 6 with a 3-2 win over Dortmund their fifth victory in the league phase.

Following the conclusion of the league phase, 16 additional teams will compete in the new knockout phase play-offs to determine the remaining spots in the Round of 16.

Champions League Knockout Format Explained

The 2024/25 season marks the introduction of the new Champions League format, which changes the way teams progress. Top 8 teams advance directly to the Round of 16. Teams finishing 9th to 24th will compete in the knockout phase play-offs, with winners securing the remaining Round of 16 spots. Teams finishing below 24th are eliminated from European competition.
