3 pupils die, 37 injured after school bus accident in Murang’a

Three pupils have been confirmed while 37 others were seriously injured after a Maadili School bus was involved in an accident along Murang’a-Gitugi Road in Murang’a County.

The accident was confirmed by Murang’a police commander David Mathiu.

According to the police boss, the accident occurred at around 5.00 pm on Saturday February 24, 2024, when the bus overturned at Kawatera area. 

“The school bus that was involved in the accident was ferrying 38 pupils, 3 teachers and 2 drivers who were returning to school after attending a scouts event in Nyeri County,” read part of the police report.

One pupil died on the spot while two others died as they were being rushed to hospital for treatment. 

Meanwhile, 5 pupils who were in critical condition were transferred to Nairobi for specialized treatment.

Those with minor injuries were admitted to various hospitals in the county for treatment.

Murang’a Governor Irung’u Kang’ata condoled the bereaved parents and the school for the unfortunate death of three pupils.

Kang’ata also promised to ensure that those injured receive proper medical attention.
