3 suspects arrested for gang-raping healthcare workers in Kakamega

In a swift operation by Kakamega North detectives, three men accused of a violent robbery and gang rape incident in Ichinga village, Mumias West Sub-County, have been arrested and arraigned in court. 

The shocking crime, which occurred on the night of February 10, 2025, targeted two young healthcare workers on their way home after a late-night shift.

The suspects; Michael Natili Khasatsili (20), Tyson Maikuva (18), and Brian Omondi Opondo (32) allegedly ambushed the victims at Ekero Shopping Centre while posing as security guards.

Under the guise of enforcing order, they lured the unsuspecting women before forcefully dragging them to a remote area in Ichinga village. What followed was a harrowing ordeal.

Both victims were robbed of their mobile phones and forced to disclose their M-PESA  PINs before being sexually assaulted.

Traumatized and severely shaken, the victims managed to seek medical attention at St. Mary’s Hospital before being referred to Mumias Level IV Hospital for further treatment. 

Their case sent shockwaves across the community, prompting an intense police investigation to bring the culprits to justice.

Determined to solve the case, detectives launched a forensic-led operation, piecing together digital and physical evidence that eventually led them to the suspects’ hideout. 

On February 15, the three were captured, and during their arrest, officers recovered one of the stolen phone a Samsung Galaxy A05 belonging to one of the victims.

The trio was presented before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court in Butali, where investigators secured a five-day custodial order to finalize their inquiries. The case is set for mention on February 26, 2025.

This disturbing incident has reignited concerns over security in the region, particularly for healthcare workers and women traveling at night. 

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as the fight against violent crime intensifies.
