A group of women celebrating International Women’s Day in Yayani area, Mavoko, Machakos County were on March 8 morning attacked by a group of armed young.
The women had just began their procession to mark this year’s celebration when the unknown men disrupted them.
Witnesses say the men were armed with pangas and clubs and disrupted the procession around 9 am, leading to a clash between the two groups.
Confirming the incident, Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia said four people were injured in the ensuing melee and were rushed to Shalom Hospital.
It took the efforts of officers from Athi Rriver Police Station to calm the situation.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the clash may have been triggered by a protracted land dispute between two rival groups in the area.
