A four-year-old girl died after strong winds destroyed the roof of a school in Kaloleni, Kilifi County on May 21, 2024.
The unfortunate incident was reported at Gotani police station, after it was confirmed by Kayafungo chief Boniface Kalama.
In a police statement, Kalama stated that around 1655hrs on Tuesday, a strong wind destroyed the roof of Gogoraruhe Mosque ECDE school.
This led to 5 students being injured including one 5-year-old boy, one 2-year-old girl, and two 4-year-old boys.
The victims were later rushed to Mariakani sub-county hospital where a 4-year-old female pupil succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
The scene was visited and processed by officers from DCI Kaloleni and Gotani police station.
In similar events, it was reported by Salima Gasses director, Yusuf Hussein of Rabai sub-county that strong winds blew off a godown wall of the factory where oxygen gas cylinders are stored.
This resulted to the injury of two male staff workers but unfortunately one of them succumbed to the injuries.
Kilifi North sub-county deputy county commissioner Samuel Muinde reported that the parking lot roof within the DCC offices faced the same.
This resulted to damage of the vehicles parked under the roof, and a wooden pole fell on one car.
