The National Government has launched an ambitious program of recruiting over 4000 youth in the Coastal region to get different types of jobs in Dubai as part of opening up employment opportunities.
Hundreds of youths, both ladies and gentlemen braved the rains to try their luck in Malindi town where the exercise kicked off on Monday and officially launched by Labour and Social protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
Among the job opportunities available in the programme dubbed ‘Kazi Majuu’ include boda-boda operators, Security guards, gardeners, office assistants, waiters and waitresses, construction workers among others.
Speaking during the official launch of the program the Labour CS said boda-boda operators will take home Ksh 80,000 while others would be paid from Ksh 60,000 monthly and below.
He said Malindi would get 1000 job opportunities and those who would get boda-boda operators jobs would be doing deliveries in Dubai.
“These jobs initiated by President William Ruto are meant to fill the big gap in the country in terms of jobs as the country builds industry to create jobs,” he said.
Mutua said those who would qualify shall be offered support by the government to cover all the expenses including travel and service fees.
He said president Ruto directed an additional funding of Ksh 300 million for youth funds to cater for the costs of those who would get the jobs and would be deducted later once the youth start jobs.
However, he urged the youth who would qualify to ensure they get their passports which costs only Ksh 7,500 and the rest would be facilitated by the government.
“Today I have allowed you to be interviewed without passports but I am sending you after this to go to e-citizen and apply for a passport. President Ruto has directed that passports be released within 3 days so you will get a passport and go abroad,” he said.
Ngalla Karisa a resident of Gahaleni area in Malindi constituency who successfully applied and got an opportunity to go and work as a waiter thanked the government for giving him such an opportunity.
To him, that will enable him to get permanent employment and cater for family needs and transform his life.
“I had applied as a waiter and passed all the processes, now I am waiting for the way forward from above,” he said.
Karisa said he already had a passport and was waiting for the rest of the documents from the government.
Susan Albright could also not hide her joy upon getting a letter of offer to work as an office assistant and also thanked CS Mutua for giving them that opportunity.
“I have been looking for a job for a long time in vain. I went to school but have never got any employment opportunity,” she said.
Racheal Songoro, a resident, who also got a job as a cleaner said she has tried to look for a job for over one year without any luck.
“My expectations are if I get a job, I will transform my life and also build the nation,” she said.
