Female candidates outnumbered their male counterparts; 480,310 male candidates sat last year’s exam while 482,202 were female.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba officially released the KCSE results during a press briefing held at New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi on Thursday January 9, 2024.

In the new grading system, only two mandatory subjects; Mathematics and one language (either English, Kiswahili or Kenya Sign Language) are used to compute the mean grade as compared to the previous structure that considered five subjects across three cluster groups.

He added that the number of candidates with direct university entry qualifications (grade C+ and above) rose to 246,391 (25.53 per cent) compared to 201,133 (22.27 per cent) in 2023.

Other 476,889 candidates meanwhile attained over C-minus and above, while those with D-plus and above were 605,774.

This achievement underscores the continued dedication of students, teachers, and stakeholders in improving educational outcomes.

However 840 candidates were involved in exam irregularities and their results were cancelled.

“The results of 2,829 candidates suspected to have been involved in exam malpractices have been withheld pending completion of investigations that should be completed within 30 days from today,” the Education CS said.

“The Ministry of Education is liaising with the National Treasury to ensure that Ksh48 billion capitation grants for our primary, junior and secondary school levels for term 1 2025 are disbursed using the data captured under our national education management system,” he added.

Candidates can access individual results online through a link on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website (https://resullts.knec.ac.ke).

They will be required to enter their index number and any of their names per their KCSE registration data.

CS Ogemba advised any candidates with trouble accessing their results to call KNEC through the toll-free number 0800724900 or 0800721410.
