Police officers on Monday April 29, 2024 recovered the body of a 54-year-old man who was swept away by floods in Nyahururu, Laikipia County.
The victim was swept away by torrential floods on Sunday evening when the Gathaara River in Igwamiti Ward broke its banks due to the ongoing heavy rainfall in the country.
According to reports, James Njora Kahiga, a resident of Kiamaina village was on his way home after the rains had stopped, but he was washed away while crossing the flooded bridge.
His body was discovered at 8:00 am on Monday by villagers who were looking for him.
Police removed the body to Nyahururu County Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, residents urged the national and county administrations to quickly clear drainage systems in the area to prevent flooding in homes.
