‘Bandits’ surrender 4 guns to Isiolo police

Police in Isiolo County on Thursday, May 2 received four firearms and bullets surrendered by suspected bandits.

The officers received 1 G3 and 3 AK47 assault rifles and rounds of ammunition.

“The National Police Service through multi-agency security engagement with NGAO further appeals to those holding illicit firearms to surrender the same to the security agencies,” the National Police Service (NPS) says.

Isiolo is one of the counties in Kenya that has been adversely affected by bloodcurdling bandits.

In April, a 16-year-old form 3 girl was shot dead by suspected bandits while in a moving bus at Babala Area along the Isiolo – Merti Road four.

The killing of the student came barely two months after another incident where a Pakistani Sheikh on his way to a religious pilgrimage in Garbatula was shot dead along the Isiolo-Garbatula road.

The county administration in conjunction with the National Government, in early January, declared war on bandits through Operation Maliza Uhalifu in the Lower Easter region.

Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo at the time called on residents to unmask bandits in the county.

“Isiolo will not house bandits and their activities. This year we will join hands with the Interior Ministry to eradicate banditry,” he said.
