Ugenya MP David Ochieng now says that dismissed Cabinet Secretaries who were re-appointed to Cabinet by President William Ruto should reject their nomination.
According to the lawmaker, their nomination to the new Cabinet is creating more problems than good for the country, especially with young Kenyans (Gen Z) who had called for their sacking.
Ochieng cannot fathom why President Ruto would sack them after acknowledging that his Cabinet was incompetent and failed him, then go on and re-appoint the same CSs two weeks later.
“It is not a must that some people must be Ministers. When President Ruto decided to dismiss his Cabinet, I thought he was serious. You can’t dismiss them then bring them back 2 weeks later. There ought to be some modicum of decency and use of common sense,” MP Ochieng said in an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, July 23 morning.
He added: “I want to ask my friends Kithure Kindiki, Alice Wahome, Rebecca Miano, Davis Chirchir and Soipan Tuya, if they want to help President William Ruto, they will refuse their nomination to Cabinet.”
On his part, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka says he expected to see some members of the Gen Z movement in President Ruto’s new Cabinet.
“Why is President William Ruto sticking with these people who everybody knows their character, behavior, their histories? Why is President Ruto not able to pick new Kenyans who are highly qualified, people of substance?” He says. “I expected him to pick about 4 members of this Gen Z movement, purely because some of them have been so brilliant even when you listen to them. All they need is to be taken to Kenya School of Government and in a month of two they are fully-baked.”
In his first batch of Cabinet, President Ruto re-appointed Kithure Kindiki, Soipan Tuya, Davis Chirchir, Alice Wahome as Cabinet Secretaries. He also nominated former CS Rebecca Miano to the position of Attorney General.
