7 hotel workers arrested after allegedly torturing university student to death

Police in Homa Bay Town are investigating an incident where a university student died after he was tortured at a hotel.

According to a report filed at Homa Bay Police Station, the body of Paul Sunday, a fourth-year student of Tom Mboya University, was found naked and tied in the hands and legs inside the counter of Dalawa Hotel and Restaurant.

A county enforcement officer who was informed of the incident and rushed to the scene on Saturday, December 21 at around 1:30 pm said he found some commotion at the hotel, and that’s when he discovered the student tied with ropes.

“Homa Bay Police Station officers went to the scene and established that the said student was really tied with ropes as reported and tied in the metal bars of the said counter door,” the report seen by TV47 Digital says. “He was naked and had multiple injuries all over his body and he was bleeding profusely.”

Police rushed the student to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have since arrested seven staff of the said hotel as prime suspect in the murder incident.

The staff who were arrested include; Jacob Okeyo Omollo, Baraka Odhiambo Jude, Monica Atieno, David Ochieng, Arnoder Atieno, Kennedy Ouma Otieno and Pamella Anyango Ombeto.

“All [are] awaiting to be arraigned in court,” the report adds.
