Homa Bay County Governor, Gladys Wanga, has called on President William Ruto and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to prioritize the security of fishermen in Lake Victoria .

This was during the upcoming Piny Luo festivals in Siaya County.

Speaking at Ngeri Primary School in Suba South constituency,

Governor Wanga highlighted the pressing need for collaborative measures to address the increasing insecurity in the lake.

In a bid to empower local fishermen, the Homa Bay County government has unveiled 12 state-of-the-art fish cages valued at KSh 30 million.

Each cage, capable of holding 35,000 fish, is expected to significantly boost fish farming, improving productivity and the income levels of local communities.

The Beach Management Unit in Homa Bay expressed optimism about the initiative, citing its potential to revolutionize the region’s fishing industry.
