9 arrested during NACADA crackdown in Homa Bay

Nine individuals were on Wednesday, January 15 arrested in Migori during an operation targeting unregulated alcohol outlets.

The operation was led by officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) at the Migori County office, Homa Bay Town.

“The operation aimed to ensure that alcohol-related businesses in Homa Bay Town are fully compliant with the law,” said NACADA.

NACADA urged the public to cooperate with authorities to combat drug abuse in the county and nationwide, including reporting any suspicious or illegal activities in their communities.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspected illegal substance use or unlawful practices through the authority’s hotline, 1192, which connects directly with relevant authorities.

Additionally, the public was urged to familiarize themselves with local laws and regulations.

“Get to know the laws and regulations to help foster a safe and lawful community,” NACADA stated.

The authority also called on the public to work together in creating drug-free neighborhoods, emphasizing the importance of mentoring youth, supporting rehabilitation efforts, and promoting healthy lifestyles.

NACADA has been conducting nationwide road shows to raise awareness about building a drug-free society.

On Wednesday, teams visited Empopogi Primary School, Duka Moja, and Suswa in Narok County to promote resilience and making positive choices.

During these events, residents were encouraged to resist peer pressure and make decisions that protect their health and future.

“Alcohol and drug use can impair judgment. Stay vigilant to keep everyone safe, both on the roads and in the community,” NACADA advised.
