Nine people died on spot during a road accident involving a matatu along the Bomet-Narok road at Ratili area, according to the police report.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Saturday June 29, 2024 evening at around 5.30pm after the driver of the matatu lost control as the vehicle rolled several times.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident involving a matatu belonging to Narok Safaris shuttles was caused by a tyre burst.
The driver of the matatu was among those who perished on spot.
“The matatu was being driven from Narok towards Bomet general direction and on reaching near the location of the accident, it had a tyre burst, thereby losing control of the vehicle, rolling severally before stopping,” police reported.
As a result 8 adults ( 6 male and 2 female), and a female juvenile died on the spot.
Police added that two men who were seriously injured during the accident were rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Bodies of the accident victims were taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
The matatu, which was extensively damaged, was towed to Mulot Police Station in Narok County, awaiting inspection.
