9 people die after matatu rolls several times in Machakos

Nine people were confirmed dead after a 46-seater matatu lost control and rolled several times in Katangi area, Machakos County.

The accident occurred on Monday evening of February 26, 2024.

Confirming  the incident, the  Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Health Daniel Yumbya said 8 people died on the spot while 1 passed on while he was being taken to hospital.

Those who were injured were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, bodies of the deceased were also moved to Machakos level 5 hospital mortuary.

6 passengers who were in critical condition were admitted to ICU at the medical facility.

However, Machakos County  dispatched 8 ambulances to the scene of the accident to help in rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Machakos level 5 accident and emergency unit has been closed from the public to allow smooth reception of the accident victims.
