Jose Mourinho has criticized Tottenham’s lack of recent success during a conversation with John Obi-Mikel on his podcast.
He brought up his abrupt dismissal by Tottenham just two days before the 2021 Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
Mocking his former club, Mourinho referred to their “empty trophy room” and questioned the decision to part with him just two days before potentially leading the club to a first silverware in more than a decade.
“The most ridiculous one was a club that has an empty trophy room sacks me two days before a final. Tottenham have never won for 50 years. I don’t remember when,” Mourinho said on The Obi One Podcast.
As a result of his departure, inexperienced coach Ryan Mason led Tottenham to a 1-0 defeat against City in the final – Aymeric Laporte scored the goal that settled the final at Wembley.
Mourinho, known for his success in cup finals, expressed his frustration at not being able to guide the team.
“I am two days before a final and I couldn’t do the final. It’s the one that doesn’t smell well. But the reality is every time I went to Wembley with Chelsea I won. I went there with Manchester United three times, I won twice,” Mourinho added.

After leaving Tottenham, Mourinho took on the role of Roma manager. In Italy, he quickly secured the Europa Conference League and aims to win the Europa League in the current season.
Notably, despite his successful managerial career with various clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Porto, and Roma, Mourinho did not win any trophies with Tottenham.
