Abandoned Baby Mali Maisha receives life-changing Christmas gift at Mbagathi Hospital

Baby Mali Maisha’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and the power of community.

Abandoned by her mother at Mbagathi Hospital due to a facial deformity, her future initially seemed uncertain. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of the hospital’s Medical Social Work Department, her life has taken a remarkable turn.

After being placed in a children’s home for safety in accordance with the Children’s Act 2022, Mali’s complex medical needs became a rallying call for support. The hospital actively sought assistance from sponsors and partners to address the challenges she faced.

Today, Mali has received an early Christmas miracle—life-changing cleft lip and palate surgery.

The surgery was sponsored by the Favour Life Organization and Help A Child where the baby was placed by Mbagathi, and conducted in Nairobi Hospital.

Mbagathi Hospital CEO Dr. Alexander Irungu confirmed: “The procedure not only restores her physical appearance but also opens a brighter future filled with opportunities for growth and inclusion.”

Dr. Irungu also highlighted that such complex surgeries will soon become a routine service at Mbagathi Hospital.

“This is a testament to what partnerships and a shared commitment to healthcare excellence can achieve. We are immensely grateful to our partners for giving Mali the chance to lead a fulfilling life,” he said.

The ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art dental unit, which includes a maxillofacial theatre, will transform the hospital’s capacity to address similar cases locally.

“Mali’s story is not just about her transformation; it’s about the strides we’re making as a hospital to ensure no child is left behind due to lack of access to specialized care,” Dr. Irungu added.

As the festive season brings hope and joy, Mali’s story stands as a powerful reminder of the impact of compassion and collaboration in changing lives.
