Abdi Ahmed Mohamud has been sworn in as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Speaking after taking the oath of office on Monday January 13, 2025, Mohamud vowed to uphold diligent leadership and execute his mandate with integrity.

“I am aware of the huge responsibilities and expectations Kenyans bestow upon the EACC. I wish to offer my commitment and fidelity to the oath of office that I subscribed to in combating corruption, economic crimes and ethical conduct in our country,” he said.

The swearing in ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, who lauded Mohamud for securing the coveted position.

CJ Koome said that she expects the new EACC boss to bolster justice and support the Judiciary to realize its duties.

“You will be embracing the trust and the confidence of Kenyans who will be looking up to you with great hope and expectation,” said Martha Koome.

Mohamud was nominated after a thorough interview process, in which more than 172 candidates had applied for the job.

He takes over from Twalib Mbarak whose six-year term at the commission expired on Friday, January 10, 2025.
