Abanus Wambua, the Makueni County nominated MCA who went missing over the weekend, has reappeared after allegedly being abducted by police officers.
He was found receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Makindu, Makueni County, where he spoke to the press about his reported abduction.
Wambua recounted being taken by individuals who identified themselves as police officers from Embu.
According to him, these officers claimed they were pursuing individuals suspected of inciting anti-government demonstrations in the country.
Wambua stated that he was released after pleading with his captors to let him go.
The Wiper Party, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, issued a statement on Monday demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Wambua popularly known as Councillor Kana.
He was reported missing after witnesses saw him forced into a car that headed towards Mombasa from Makindu.
In their statement, the Wiper Party strongly condemned the abduction, describing it as a severe infringement of human rights and akin to illegal arrests and enforced disappearances prohibited under Article 29 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.
“The Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) Party unequivocally condemns the abduction of Hon. Wambua, as a gross violation of human rights and equivalent to arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearance as prohibited under Article 29 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.“
