Action movie star Jackie Chan set to be Paris Paralympics torchbearer

World-renowned action movie star and 70-year-old actor Jackie Chan is set to be the torchbearer at the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics, scheduled for tonight.

The torch relay, a significant event leading up to the Games, will see the Paralympic flame carried through the center of Paris.

Jackie Chan, globally recognized for his dynamic roles in martial arts films, will carry the Paralympic torch through the heart of the French capital.

This momentous occasion will feature a relay along the iconic Champs-Élysées and culminate at the historic Place de la Concorde, igniting excitement and anticipation for the Paralympic festivities.

The Paralympic flame arrived in France this past Sunday after crossing the Channel Tunnel, following its lighting on Saturday in Stoke Mandeville, United Kingdom, the birthplace of the global Paralympic movement.

Upon its arrival, the flame played a key role in the official ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupation on August 25, 1944.

Jackie Chan, who commands a massive following in France and beyond, is admired for his signature blend of comedy and martial arts, which transcends language barriers.

Born in British colonial Hong Kong in 1954, Chan Kong-sang began his film career as a child actor and worked as a stunt double in the 1972 Bruce Lee film “Fist of Fury.”

This will not be Chan’s first experience with the Olympic flame. With a career spanning over five decades and 145 films, Chan previously carried the torch during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

His involvement in the Paris Games underscores his lasting global influence, particularly in France, where he filmed the action-packed “Rush Hour 3.”

A memorable scene from the film, shot on the Eiffel Tower, showcased Chan’s unique blend of comedy and martial arts, further endearing him to French audiences.
