Activist Booker Omole shoots suspected abductors at his home

Political activist Booker Omole has reported that eight suspected abductors broke into his home at night.

This follows rising incidents of abductions targeting political activists and critics in the country.

Omole said the armed individuals invaded his home on Saturday and he suspects they were sent to abduct him.

“I heard a commotion around 3a.m., but I didn’t pay much attention. In under 10 minutes, I heard my next of kin, Yvonne, scream. That’s when I grabbed my gun,” Omole explained.

He said the attackers held Yvonne captive and dragged her towards his bedroom, prompting him to open fire in self-defense.

“The attackers were dressed in police combat gear, but wore red masks. One of them shined a torch to blind me,” he added.

Omole fired three shots, two hitting the roof and one striking one of the attackers.

The intruders broke a nearby window and fled after hearing the gunfire.

Omole has reported the incident to Mlolongo Police Station, suggesting that the attack could be linked to his outspoken stance on governance issues in the country.

“I’ve received threatening phone calls telling me to stop my activism, and I’ve also been warned in WhatsApp groups,” he said.

Machakos Police Commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed the incident, stating that it is being investigated as an attempted robbery.

He added that two spent cartridges were recovered from the scene.

Meanwhile, Omole’s gun has been seized for forensic examination.
