Activists call off demos after police re-arrested 5 men linked to recent Narok murders

Human rights activists in Narok County have agreed to call off demonstrations that were to be held this week to protest over increased cases of insecurity after police re-arrested five suspects of murder.

The human rights defenders led by Professor Meitamei Ololdapash and Narok Youth Council Leader Booster Kisio had threatened to mobilize the residents to demonstrate after the suspects were released from custody last week.

Ololdapash, who lost his son in the insecurity saga, said they called off the protest after assurance by the police that enough evidence had been gathered to prosecute the five suspects.

The professor said the family was relieved after the police assured them that they are following the due process to ensure justice was served for all those who lost their beloved ones in the murder incidents in Narok town.

The five suspects had been arrested but released from custody after the 14 days given by the court to hold them to allow investigations to be conducted had collapsed.

The security team led by Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare and Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), led by Narok head Gitonga Murang’a said they have gathered enough evidence to prosecute the five.

The county police boss said the five were re-arrested after more evidence was collected to connect them to the murder case.

He assured the members of the public of improved security in Narok town and its environs saying most criminals who were involved in the murder cases had been arrested.

Ngare called on residents to continue reporting suspicious people to the police so that investigations can be conducted and eliminate persons with ill-intention amongst them.

On his part, the head of ODPP revealed that he was content with the evidence given to link the five suspects to the murder of Hilary Ololdapash and that he will charge them with murder.

He promised to do his work professionally so that the bereaved families will get justice.

The youth leader Booster Kisio called on youths to cease writing incitement messages on social media platforms and give the security organs ample time to arrest criminals and conduct investigations.
