Aftermath of Mukuru Kwa Njenga fire incident

A fire incident has occurred at Mukuru Kwa Njenga, near Muhindi Mweusi in Nairobi County affecting 100 households with the number of injuries unverified.

According to eyewitness accounts, the fire started spreading to the surrounding building from where it started.

Additionally, from videos posted by eyewitnesses, the fire had covered significant ground in a matter of minutes.

Residents on the ground were forced to make their way to Kamakis evading the fire which some felt could reach residential houses within the vicinity of the fire.

The Kenya Red Cross was among the first disaster responders to arrive at the scene of the fire to mitigate the situation.

Kenya Red Cross fre update

According to a statement on X from Kenya Red Cross, “ A fire incident has occurred at Mukuru Kwa Njenga, near Muhindi Mweusi in Nairobi County.”

Additionally, the Kenya Red Cross shared its efforts on the ground around Muhindi Mweusi in Mukuru Kwa Njenga.

“Our team is on the ground, actively engaging in response efforts alongside community-based disaster response teams,” shared the Kenya Red Cross.

According to active eyewitness accounts, most residents have had to seek safer grounds as necessary authorities stepped in to put out the fire.

Consequently, the fire had spread to significant areas which saw the fire continue till late in the night.

Mukuru Kwa Njenga Fire Contained

Despite the fire spreading, authorities on the ground continued fighting the fire to contain it ensuring it stopped spreading.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the fire had been contained with a damages assessment taking place.

In a statement on X, the Kenya Red Cross has thanked teams on the ground critical in containing the fire.

“Fire contained, thanks to the County Fire Brigade, Kenya Police, Community-Based Disaster Responders, and Kenya Red Cross.” shared the Kenya Red Cross.

Furthermore, at the moment, it is unclear whether any lives were lost during the fire incident at Mukuru Kwa Njenga.

Additionally, the Kenya Red Cross reported that one person was attended to on-site during efforts to contain the fire.

Consequently, the Kenya Red Cross has reported that approximately 100 households have been affected by the fire.
