Agnes Jebet, the 10km world record holder, has set her sights on breaking the half marathon world record by the end of 2025. After missing the Paris Olympics due to injury, the 24-year-old Kenyan star is now fully recovered and determined to push new limits in her career.
Jebet’s Comeback Begins at Sirikwa Classic
Jebet will mark her return to competition at the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour on February 22 in Eldoret. She considers the event a stepping stone for the major races ahead as she builds momentum toward her ultimate goal.
Speaking about her ambitions, Jebet emphasized her desire for more records beyond her 10km triumph.
“Breaking the world record and coming close to smashing the one for the half marathon was a huge motivation for me, especially considering I missed the Paris Olympics with an injury. That was my ultimate target, but I missed out. I still want more…I don’t want to stop at the 10km world record. I missed out on the world record for the half marathon, and I am motivated that I can do it,” Jebet said.
Jebet’s Road to the Half Marathon Record
In 2024, Jebet shattered the 10km world record with a remarkable 28:26 at the Valencia Ibercaja race. Later that year, she came agonizingly close to the half marathon world record, clocking 1:03:04—just shy of the record. Now, she is determined to go all the way in 2025.
Jebet draws inspiration from Kenyan Olympic champions Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet, who continue to motivate her pursuit of greatness.
“They inspire me a lot,” Jebet added, acknowledging the impact of her fellow Kenyan athletes.
What’s Next for Jebet?
With her 2025 season kicking off in Eldoret, Jebet’s long-term goals include a strong showing at the World Championships in Tokyo. Whether this will be the year she takes her career to the next level remains to be seen but her determination is stronger than ever.
The 24 year -old is set to take part in the upcoming Sirikwa World Cross Country set for February 22 which she says is a precursor for all the races is wants to win going deep into the year.
