“From now on, all operators of short-term accommodation rentals, including Airbnbs, must register with the TRA,” the statement from the PSs read in part.

“This registration ensures that all accommodations maintain the highest safety and security standards for guests.”

Starting February 5, 2024, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) will work with TRA to ensure compliance of this order.

Non-compliant Airbnb and lodging owners will face strict penalties.

“NGAOs, alongside TRA, will begin thorough inspections of all registered properties from February 5, 2024,” the statement continued.

“We will work with booking platforms to restrict unregistered rentals and impose fines or revoke licenses for non-compliance.”

The government has also encouraged resident associations to work closely with law enforcement agencies for effective enforcement.

This collaboration include; sharing information, conducting joint inspections, and coordinated response to safety standards violations.

Moreover, security guards at these properties must now temporarily retain the identification documents of all visitors and record entry and exit times.

Additionally, operators must install and regularly update CCTV surveillance systems.

“We call on all stakeholders in the short-term rental sector to follow these regulations,” the statement added. “Everyone has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure a safe environment for all individuals, regardless of gender.”
