Kenyan entrepreneur Akothee (real name Esther Akoth) has disclosed her co-parenting journey with her children’s fathers is still a struggle years later.
In a heartfelt message to another celebrity in a legal battle with her ex over custody of the children, Akothee was candid about the dynamics of co-parenting.
She admitted that more than ten years later, she was still fighting with the father to her children.
“Co-parenting will turn you into a mental patient if not treated with maturity,” the mother of five began.
Her two sons live with their father in the United Kingdom and Akothee gets to spend time with them once a year.
“I am 43, and my baby daddy still makes me cry. My son is 15, my other son just turned 11. Up until yesterday, I still burst into tears. This co-parenting needs maturity, patience, and understanding, not thorax,” Akothee explained.
She was giving advice to a warring couple identified as Kora and her ex named Justin over their two children who are under four years old.
Akothee advised Kora to seek other means of co-parenting with her ex instead of chest thumping and even fundraising for a legal battle against her children’s father.
“Men are not emotionally attached to children. I don’t say they don’t love their children, but the pain you feel while fighting for the children is double that of a man. If I were you, I would try to make peace.”
The mother of five admitted that to this day, her children’s father demands that she and her lover should not post photos online with their children.
“My baby daddy also told me he doesn’t want to see any man post photos with his son. It’s a men thing, but it has no weight, he is just reminding you that he has shares and say over his children, oh yes, he contributed,” Akothee added.
After battling severe depression for years, the successful entrepreneur and philanthropist admits the trauma with co-parenting led her to make certain mistakes on social media.
“I used to twerk a lot, but I realized I was dealing with some trauma, walking and shooting videos in a bikini was not a problem to me. Now that I found my purpose and hit my level of actualization, I don’t remember the last time I took a bikini photo.”
This comes as the world marks Mother’s Day, which is celebrated every second Sunday in the month of May.
