Comedian Akuku Danger has opened up about his ongoing battle with sickle cell anaemia.

shedding light on the challenges he has faced due to the condition.

Speaking on a podcast, Akuku revealed that he first learned about his sickle cell disease when he was just 7 years old.

During subsequent hospital visits, his parents were given the grim prognosis that he had only a few years to live.

Now at the age of 33, the former Churchill Show comedian recounted a particularly distressing incident.

Doctors told Akuku he would not live

He shared that medical professionals advised against transferring to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The doctors believed his chances of survival were slim and it would only cost the family more money.

“I don’t want to tarnish the name of the hospital, but my parents were told that there was no need to admit me to the ICU.” He recounted.

He continues “They were basically told that keeping me there would be a waste of money.”

The doctors said, “If you want, we can put him on a machine, but you should know that there’s nothing we can do here. So, in the meantime, start preparing for his funeral.’

I’ve heard those words, but we’re still here; God still has a purpose for us,” he shared.

Akuku also described the excruciating pain he has endured over the years due to sickle cell anaemia.

Will he have a family?

He expressed his reluctance to have a child who might inherit the same condition.
He emphasized the emotional and financial strain sickle cell anaemia places on individuals and their families.

“No matter how much I love my partner, if she is a carrier or has a positive blood group, I can’t have a child with her.”

Akuku stated “I would have to use contraceptives because I wouldn’t want to bring another child into this world with the same condition.

Akuku shared his thoughts on his father’s journey with the disease and how he managed to survive.

“Even now, as I sit at home, I wonder how my father managed it because it’s a significant financial burden.”

So, imagine I was born with it, and up to this point, at 33, how much do you think he has spent on medication alone?” Akuku questioned.
