Alan Shearer now says Arsenal will fight for the Premier League title until their last two matches against Everton and Manchester United.
Speaking to BBC on Monday, Shearer said that even though Arsenal is not his favourite side to win the league, ‘they are going to be there right until the end of this title race.’
“Arsenal’s display on Sunday was very different to what happened there 11 months ago, when City battered them 4-1 on their way to winning the league. This performance showed again how they have progressed, and the work they have done in the transfer window,” Shearer told BBC Sport’s Chris Bevan.
Alan Shearer Premier League favourites
The Premier League all time top scorer – with 260 goals – says he still favours City to win the league despite only beating Manchester United as the only big six in the league this season.
“At the moment it is advantage Liverpool, and Arsenal are not going away, but, with nine games to go, I still see Manchester City as favourites for the Premier League title,” he said following the 0-0 draw between the Gunners and City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
“They were my pick to win the league when it started and I am certainly not going to change my mind now.”
Mikel Arteta’s side have the best defence record in the league, having conceded just 24 times in 29 matches. They are also the highest scorers, with 70 goals on the board so far.
Arsenal who currently seat second in the league with 65 points – 2 behind leaders Liverpool – have a 18.8 percent chance of winning the title compared to City’s 45.9 percent and Liverpool’s 35.3 according to Opta.
