Aldrine Kibet scores again as Kenya sinks Somalia

Aldrine Kibet was on target again as Kenya ended Somalia’s campaign at the 2023 CECAFA U18 championship by beating them 4-1 at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Kenya had already qualified for the semifinals of the regional championship following 5-0 and 1-0 wins against Sudan and Rwanda in their opening group matches. The game at Bukhungu was just a show of might for Junior Stars.

Somalia were the first to find the back of the net, Abdihafid Abdi scoring a long-range goal in the 19th minute, but Kenya replied with two quick-fire goals through Humphrey Aroko (25′) and Stanley Omondi (28′) taking a 2-1 lead into the break.

Salim Babu’s young lads came back for the second half ready to put Somalia to the sword – and that was done with the help of two second-half goals.

Aroko who tied the game in the 25th minute, was on target in the 66th yet again, thumping into the Somalia net to complete his brace.

Eight minutes later, Aldrine Kibet got Kenya’s fourth, his first of the game, and his third of the tournament. The 16-year-old has scored in each of the three games he has played at the championship.
