Radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has confirmed his departure from Milele FM, days after making a U-turn on his last message on social media.
In an interview on Cape Media’s Radio 47 on Saturday, Mwakideu confirmed he had received official communication from the Media Max-owned station accepting his resignation.
“I handed in my resignation letter and they accepted it. I asked can I leave now and they said yes. So I took to social media to announce my departure,” the renowned media personality began.
Shortly afterward, the station’s management urged him to clarify that he had not left his job, seeing as an official communication letter had not been released.
“Makubaliano yalikuwa yamefanyika. Lakini wakasema nachoma kusema nimetoka bila barua rasmi. Sasa mimi nikarudi mtandaoni kusema sijatoka lakini makubaliano yalikuwepo,” he went on.
Mwakideu revealed that the station was reluctant to let him go, hence the back and forth before receiving written communication to officially exit Milele FM.
He reacted to speculations of joining another radio station, saying he wanted to delve into other things.
“It was not about the money. I reached a point where in my heart I felt it was the right time to leave. I thank them for the five years I was there.
“I am now 19 years into radio presenting heading to 20 years. I asked myself whether I want to continue being a presenter after all this time. I said no.”
