Alice Kimanzi opens up about a decade of childlessness

Gospel singer Alice Mumbi Kimanzi has courageously shared her emotional journey to motherhood, revealing the deep struggles and triumphs she experienced over a decade.

In a heartfelt conversation with fellow singer Kambua, Alice opened up about her path to finally welcoming her miracle baby.

Alice began by describing the heartache she felt when it was suggested that carrying a child might be impossible for her.

“It was said that carrying a child might be impossible, and we were encouraged to adopt since we weren’t even 30 yet,” she shared with Kambua.

Holidays, she noted, were especially tough, not due to others, but because of her own unmet expectations. “It was like failing an exam,” she explained.

She recounted a particularly overwhelming experience when a family member asked for her period tracker, and a nurse offered help, but the constant advice became too much.

After consulting a doctor, Alice was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), but treatments did not yield results. Adoption was suggested as an alternative.

Despite the bleak outlook, Alice and her husband remained steadfast in their prayers. As the years passed, the internal pressure grew.

“It felt like something was being taken from me, a joy I had longed for. I would ask God, ‘You gave me this desire for a child, so why aren’t you doing something about it?’”

Fortunately, her struggles did not strain her marriage.

“No, we were on the same page. My husband understood exactly how I felt.” However, by the sixth year, Alice faced a severe faith crisis.

“The devil whispered a lie to me, and I believed it for a long time—that God didn’t understand. I entertained the thought, which made my faith waver significantly.”

Her relationship with God suffered, and by year eight, she began declining invitations to lead worship, feeling lost without her faith.

A turning point came when Alice Kimanzi accepted a church invitation and her perspective on God’s love changed. “That lie disappeared. It felt like something changed that year.”

At the beginning of year ten, Alice consulted a doctor who predicted she would conceive within a month.

When her period was late and she took a pregnancy test, she was trembling with fear and excitement. The test was positive.

Today, Alice and her husband are blessed with a four-year-old son, a testament to their enduring faith and perseverance.
