Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over recent events in Embu, where leaders were heckled during public gatherings.
Speaking during a church service in Kimumu, Mbeere North on Sunday January 5, 2025, Kindiki accused Gachagua of incitement and fueling divisions in the country.
“If you have your own issues, don’t bring them here. I have given him all the respect, but he must also respect me,” Kindiki said, referencing the heckling that disrupted a burial ceremony where the President’s speech was ignored by an angry crowd.
The Deputy President criticized Gachagua’s approach to leadership, stating, “You can’t be a leader who listens to the people’s grievances, then cries and complains without offering solutions. All you do is fuel anger and frustration.”
He also urged leaders to avoid raising unnecessary political temperatures by engaging in personal attacks. “This kind of behavior is bad leadership. Leaders should focus on offering practical solutions, not creating rifts among Kenyans,” he said.
Kindiki dismissed claims of his silence and reduced public appearances as distractions. “Watch this space. We know what Kenyans expect, and we’re focused on solving the real issues,” he concluded.
The remarks come amidst growing discontent among citizens, with calls for leaders to address pressing national issues rather than engaging in political bickering.
