In his last game as Sporting Lisbon manager, Rueben Amorin pulled off a stunner as his side beat Man City 4-1 in UEFA Champions League Matchday 4.
The Spaniard had a chance to oversee his last Champions League game before making his arrival at Manchester United on November 11th.
“The worst and best week of my life, its tough because I am leaving a very good place.
In the post-game interview, Amorin bid his farewell to the fans in Spain and expressed his desire to make United better as he starts this new role at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
“The victory helped a lot; I think I am going in peace to another challenge. I start a new one at a new club; we gotta play this teams better and I will have to improve as a coach,” he said.
Man City pretty much dominated the first half of the game after an early goal from Phil Foben gave the English side a lead in the 4th minute.
Sporting Lisbon Striker Viktor Gyokeres scored the equalizer moments before the half, and the Spaniard rallied to complete the comeback at home.
Viktor completed the game with a hat trick to make an impressive 20 goals in his 16 appearances so far this season. He was the man of the match against City.
Amorin commented on the rumor of the Swede forward potentially joining him in his new journey with Manchester. “We will respect that Viktor has to stay in Sporting until the end of the season, then maybe he can go somewhere else.
“I’m here, and I really like being here, said Viktor. “It’s not something I think about. I’m enjoying it here. It’s difficult to talk about the future, but we will definitely do the same job and continue to give our best. We wish him [Amorim] the best. It’s very good for him.”
