African National Congress (ANC) Veterans League (ANCVL) deputy president Mavuso Msimang has quit the party after being a member for over 60 years.
Msimang cited the issue of the ruling party losing power in South Africa as one of the reasons for quitting.
He submitted the resignation letter to ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula after concerns were raised over veteran politicians decamping the party.
In the letter, the veteran ANC politician pointed out corruption as one of the reasons for him quitting the party.

“The ANC has been wracked by endemic corruption, with devastating consequences on the governance of the country and the lives of poor people, of whom there continue to be so many,” stated Msimang.
He added that ANC has brought shame in South Africa with a track record of corruption for the past 30 years.
“The corruption we once decried is now part of our movement’s DNA. This has had dire consequences for the most vulnerable members of our society,” Msimang added.
Msimang who was elected as ANC veterans league deputy president in July 2023 accused other party leaders of failure to lead the country in the right direction.

“Consequently, I have realised that my time and energies would be better spent elsewhere.
“Even as I painfully sever ties with my once glorious organisation, I shall continue to keep a vigil over any and all matters pertaining to governance in the country.
“It is not easy to leave an organisation that continues to be home to some of the most dedicated individuals I have had the good fortune, honour and privilege to call comrades. But it is time to go,” he wrote.
On the other hand, his resignation was accepted by ANC Veterans League, according to spokesperson Snuki Zikalala.

“Regrettably, Mavuso Msimang, the deputy president of the ANCVL has decided to resign from the ANC. His resignation is acknowledged,” Zikalala said.
Zikalala added that it was wrong for the party secretary general to accuse veterans of decamping the party.
