Tennis sensation Angella Okutoyi has clinched Kenya’s fifth gold medal at the ongoing African Games in Accra Ghana, this is after she beat Egyptian Lamis Al-Hussein 6-2, 6-4 to win the African title.
The win means Okutoyi will be able to get a direct ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics if she climbs into the world’s top 400 by 10 June.
The 20-year old ,2022 won the Wimbledon title holder follows in the footsteps of Jane Davies-Doxzon, who won gold at the 1978 All Africa Games in Algiers as well as Judy Wakhungu who clinched bronze at the 1987 All Africa Games in Nairobi.
Okutoyi will be in action later on Thursday as she teams up with Cynthia Wanjala to take on the Egyptian pair of Merna Mostafa Refaat and Sandra Sameh Samir in the doubles final.
