Angry residents living along Kimbimbi-Kajiji Road in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County, are up in arms over the pathetic state of the road which has currently paralyzed economic activities in the villages.

The residents on Monday, December 19 barricaded the road, dug trenches and planted banana plants, insisting that it is no longer fit for human use, as women are forced to give birth on their way to hospitals due to its poor state.

Led by Nancy Wanjiku and Kimbimbi bodaboda Chairperson Irungu Mwangi, the residents say the road has brought to a halt the economic activities of the area, making their farm produce are being bought at a throw away price.

Irungu says they will not open the road until the local leaders and the National Government come to their rescue.

Nancy Wanjiku said they closed the busy murram road as the Karoti bridge which has served them for years is at the verge of collapse.

“Contractors are buying the murram from our local quarries and transporting it to other parts with heavy lorries while the road they are using is in deplorable state,” Wanjiku says.
