Five people lost their lives, and 10 others were seriously injured after a matatu they were traveling in rammed into a trailer at Londiani area along the Molo -Kericho highway in Kericho County, Kenya Red Cross officials have confirmed.
Four men and a child died on spot during the accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a trailer at the Londiani black spot.
According to the Kenya Red Cross statement posted on its X account, the accident occurred around 3.30 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
“10 persons evacuated to Molo and Londiani sub-county hospitals. Unfortunately, 5 people (4 men and 1 child) lost their lives,” Kenya Red Cross noted in a statement.

Meanwhile, the injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities in Londiani and Kericho town for treatment.
Additionally, police have cleared the accident scene, and normal traffic flow has resumed along the busy highway.

The accident is one of the several accidents that have been reported in the country.
For instance, on November 27, six people perished in an accident at Flyover trading center along the Nakuru -Nairobi highway after a matatu collided with a lorry.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred when the matatu tried to overtake several vehicles along the climbing lane before it collided with the lorry.
