Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a, a controversial preacher did not hold back as he criticized the Kenyan government for what he perceived as excessive tax hikes.
In a fiery speech during a live church service at the Neno Evangelism headquarters in Nairobi, Ng’ang’a minced no words.
Further, he even dared the authorities to shut down his church if they so desired.
Ng’ang’a’s words were impassioned and direct: “Sometimes you are misleading this nation.
I speak as a prophet. The economy is in shambles, and you keep burdening the people with taxes.
You raise taxes here and there, and when someone tells you that you’re closing churches, why don’t you come and shut mine down! Stupid!”

He continued, “When I preach, I will speak the truth. I swear before God. Some of you are leading this nation astray, and the iron is in the kitchen while you’re looking for it in the evening!”
Ng’ang’a also issued a stern warning to the Kenya Kwanza leadership, cautioning that if they continued down this path, God would remove them from power.
After the video of Ng’ang’a’s impassioned speech went viral online, Kenyans on social media had a field day turning his sentiments into memes and creative expressions.
Political analyst and social commentator Gabriel Oguda even suggested designing t-shirts featuring Ng’ang’a’s quote, “Si Mfunge, Stupid!”
Many Kenyans joined in, with some saying that they found the preacher’s words surprisingly sensible.

The Draft Medium-term Debt Strategy for the period 2024-25 and 2026-27, released by the National Treasury, included significant tax changes, such as an increase in VAT from 16 percent to 18 percent and higher exercise duties on spirits and high-alcohol content products to discourage their consumption due to health concerns.
